January 31, 2008 - I Deserve It!

Beer Bottle - 31/366

Today was a good day at work. I've been told that my client thinks I'm doing a wonderful job - I 'wowed' them with my excel skills and I was brought up at my staff meeting for being a good consultant.

I think I deserve this beer.

For this photo, I intentionally blurred the background to increase the intensity of the bottle.

January 30, 2008 - Are you watching?

Neighborhood Watch - 30/366

There's not much reasoning behind this photo for my blog except that I like the cartoon character "thug". I tried to crop it a little more interestingly than one would expect.

January 29, 2008 - Nice shots in strange places?

Matchbox Side View - 29/366

I had a meeting at the Chinatown Starbucks today and walked around afterwards and found this shot.

This isnt my prettiest photo, but there's some things that I really like about the composition. First, the dark red door with the bright white trim really makes the door pop. Second, the light on the matchbox logo and the fire hydrant in the bottom right. Third, there's a lot of clean lines in this photo - the door, the matchbox logo is square and aligns with the light and fire hydrant and the pipe along top.

January 28, 2008 - Through the Glass

Glass Pyramid Sculpture - wider angle - 28/366

This photo combines something that I love (reflections) and something that I'm learning about now - using my manual setting on my camera. For the camera geeks - my aperture was set at f4.5 and my shutter speed was 1 second. The Dept of Transportation is reflected in the glass and the Air and Space Museum is in the background.

January 27, 2008 - Shut up and Drive!

Shut up and Drive - 27/366

Now, living in DC - I rarely drive or spend time in a car for that matter. But, Sunday, I was in my friend Aaron's zipcar. I saw the dashboard and was like, this would be a cool photo.

January 26, 2008 - Cause we all just wanna be big rockstars

American Dream - 26/366

My friend is in a band called Honor By August. We went to see them headline at 930 club last night. I had a great time and this is my favorite shot of the night. I like it a lot because of the blurriness - it seems 'dreamlike'.

January 25, 2008 - Green Means GO!

Green means Go! - 25/366

I was walking around Penn Quarter after work today just for fun and took a close up of a traffic light just to see what would happen. Well, I'm pretty darn happy with the way it turned out!

January 24, 2008 - Enough Construction Already!

Crane - 24/366

Anyone that lives in a major city sees this all the time - cranes! I know in the long run that construction is a good thing, but it's so annoying right now!

I took this shot outside of my office, which due to construction has moved my bus stop 3 blocks away.

January 23, 2008 - For the Birds

For the Birds - 23/366

I play ultimate frisbee on Wednesday nights and this week, I moved my car closer to the metro so I could drive to the game. As I got out at 13th/T NW I saw birds outside of a house. So, I stopped to take some photos. The birds kept moving around because I was too close. But, I got this beaut. It came out much better than I expected.

Enjoy!

January 22, 2008 - Right Place Right Time

Right Place Right Time Take Two - 22/366

This is what this project is all about. Having your camera with you at all times. I left work a little bit early today because I was so tired from my Vegas trip. I walk outside, turn the corner and saw this! I literally had 2 minutes to take it because after this shot, the rainbow disappeared.

There are also some cool dusk shots of clouds that I got today as well:

January 21, 2008 - An Eye to the Sky

Airplane at Dusk - 21/366

Saw this while waiting for my flight at McCarran Airport in Vegas. Sad to come home, but happy to catch this shot.

January 20, 2008 - I'm Broke

It's All about the Benjamins - 20/366

Mandalay Bay has my money now. But, Will and I had fun playing Blackjack and learning Paigow Poker

January 19, 2008 - The Strip from my point of view...

Eiffel Tower reflection - 19/366

This isnt necessary the best photo from the Strip, but it is my most original. I saw the Eiffel Tower reflecting on a fountain outside of Paris Las Vegas Casino. I dont think many other people see it this way.

Apprécier.

January 18, 2008 - Leaving.... on a jetplane

Ceiling of Terminal A

Today, I left for SinCity - Las Vegas! I was really excited to fly out of Reagan National because you can watch planes take off from the terminal... unless you fly AirTran and then you leave out of Terminal A. Well, here is the only interesting thing I could find.

This is the ceiling. I converted to B&W.

January 17, 2008 - Childhood

Childhood - 17/366

So I belong to a website (www.dpchallenge.com) that offers themes for challenges every week. This week's theme is expressing "childhood" without having a child. My idea was to find a colorful board game and take a photo of the pieces on it. It really grabs your attention.

Today was crappy outside - snow and rain and I was in no mood to go out there and take photos tonight!

Leaving for Las Vegas until Tuesday. There may or may not be photo updates before then.

January 16, 2008 - Huck You!

Concentration Catch - 16/366

Today was my first night at indoor ultimate for the 2008 winter season. This is a shot of a guy catching a huck down the court. I would expect to see more ultimate photos.

If you want to see more of the photos I got that night, go here:

January 15, 2008 - One of those days

Garbage/One of Those Days - 15/366

It was just one of those days. Had trouble getting up out of bed this morning and could not get over it at all. Then, on the way home, a man that smelled as though he had bathed in ashtrays sat next to me on the bus. It was disgusting. On my walk home, I saw this cigarette on the ground and I was inspired to take this photo. It represents my bad day and how disgusted I was with this man perfectly.

January 14, 2008 - Let There Be Light (in long exposures)

National Mall in Lights

Today was my first day of Photography class, but I couldnt be THAT traditional
Took this fun shot on the National Mall with a 9 second exposure at dusk today. Loved how it turned out.

January 13, 2008 - Too Much Light Will Make the Baby Go Blind

Too Much Light Will Make the Baby Go Blind Stage (13/366)

Today, I went with Shane to the Woolly Mammoth for performance of "Too Much Life Will Make the Baby Go Blind". It's a comedy show that is 30 skits in 60 minutes. This was a shot I took before the performance of the stage. Some of the skit numbers did not come out, but I like the shadows on the stage curtain.

January 12, 2008 - More Cars!

Car Light - 12/366

I was walking back from breakfast this morning and I was inspired by my car shot from yesterday. I took this of a front side light of a truck (I wish I knew more about cars!)

I had a tough time deciding between car light photo and Spotlight this shot.

I took a few more yesterday, check them out on my Flickr page

January 11, 2008 - Challenged!

Challenged - 11/366

My friend Wes challenged me to take a photo of something that it may take you a few minutes to guess what it is, but there is information to figure it out.

So, Wes, what is it?

Answer to come! (SEE COMMENTS FOR THE ANSWER)

January 10, 2008 - Contrast

Green Beans

This is for a photo contest where the theme is yellow. I was going to make dinner tonight when I remembered I had green and yellow green beans. I separated some of them and lined them up on my cutting board. I think the yellow stands out.

For the other photos I liked of the green beans, go to http://www.flickr.com/photos/cstein96

January 9, 2008 - Self Portrait #1

Self-Portrait Photoshopped

Well, tonight I got my haircut. I imagine I will have 11 more of these type photos for the year. This time, I decided to change the exposure on iphoto and played around with the contrasts and settings a lot. I got this as my final image.

The original is:

January 8, 2008 - Learning Curve

Learning Curve - 8/366

So, it was 70 degrees out in January. What better thing to do than go to the outdoor skating rink at the National Sculpture Garden? (not to mention there was a DOJ skating event that night). I wanted to get a photo of people skating in t-shirts and shorts, but I got this great shot of a girl hanging on to the rail. People were skating by her and I got one moving on by. Her face is a little blurry at bigger sizes, but small it looks good!

January 7, 2008 - Ties

Ties - 7/366

I found out at work that I will be giving a minor presentation on a document that I created. It's not very major, but it's the first time I will be speaking in front of my entire client.

So, last night I picked a tie that would go best with my suit. I chose the dark red one.

January 6, 2008 - Company Property

Company Property 6/366

Taken after doing work on a sunday. I noticed this barcode when I shut my laptop cover. It made me think - am I independent when I do my work or am I really company property?

January 5, 2008 - Family Visit

Family Photo - 5/366

My parents came to visit and take photos around DC today. We took this photo in some curved glass outside a Wachovia on Connecticut Ave NW.

January 4, 2008 - See It To Believe It

Glasses - Black and White

Today I went to the Optometrist who performed my Lasik in December. It's 3 weeks after my surgery and I'm at 20/20 and it's healing nicely.

No more corrective lenses for me!

January 3, 2008 - Wish it was summer again!

Sad Sunscreen

Had some trouble coming up with something to take a photo of. Today it was the first 'bitter' cold day of 2008. I dont think it went over 30 degrees - which doesnt sound all that bad depending on what part of the country you live in. But, the past week it was in the 50s! There's an overnight low of 17 degrees. BRRRR!

So, my photo is a sad face made from my leftover sunscreen from the summer.

January 2, 2008 - Treadmillers

Treadmillers - Black and White

This is my take on a New Years Resolution photo. I took this outside of Results gym on U St NW. The windows are foggy because of the steam from the bodies against the cold air. I love the silhouette of the people working out.

January 1, 2008 - Stuck!

Stuck!

Happy New Years!

I took this photo walking from Tenleytown Metro Station on the way to National Cathedral.

I thought I'd start off the new year with something fun. A tennis ball got stuck in the wall of a building. I have no idea how it got wedged in there! This really caught my eye with the contrast of the neon green tennis ball and the dark green of the wall.  Like this ball, I'm 'stuck' doing this project for 365 more days!

What am I doing?

I've seen a few people do it. I think it will be awesome.

I started taking photos on January 1, 2008 and will continue taking a photo a day until December 31, 2008 - that's 366 photos. I've already taken 2 for 2008 and will be posting them soon.
