February 17, 2008 - Japanese Hyperculture

I went to the Japan! Culture and Hyperculture exhibit at the Kennedy Center today. It was the last day of it's showing, glad I made it on time. This isnt necessarily my favorite photo from the day, but it more represents the type of things that we saw.

Here is a part of the info from the guide they provided us:
Yayoi Kusama, the artist is among the most exhibited, collected and celebrated japanese artists alive today. Her trademark has always been obsessively repeated patterns, especially polka dots. She claims they derive from hallucinations she had as a child, when flowers or patters would slowly cover everything including her in a terrifying 'obliteration'.
