March 30, 2008 - Play Ball!

One - 90/366

I'm so happy baseball is back. It's been a long 5 months.

We were lucky enough to get tickets to the Nationals Home Opener in their new stadium, Nationals Park. We went early to walk around the stadium, take it all in, and ofcourse snap some photos. This is probably my favorite of the set. I love the composition and it almost makes you dizzy when you stare at it for a while.

I'm tempted to title it "Target Practice"

Single fan waiting for the opener to start.

March 28, 2008 - The Thinker

the Thinker - 88/366

My 'final exam' for my Photography class was to take a picture that included an Apple. So, we had creative freedom with it. The first thing that popped into my mind was "comparing apples to oranges". So, I bought an apple and an orange. This is one of my interpretations of making a decision with the apple in the foreground. This is my other favorite.

March 27, 2008 - Abstract Monument

Navy Memorial "Waterfall" - 87/366

It was a cloudy day with not a whole lot of 'pretty' things to take photos of. I noticed a huge group of tourists around the Navy Memorial so I headed that way. I noticed they put the fountains on this week. I was taking some fast shutter speeds so I could get the detail of the water, but then, I decided to do the opposite. I slowed my shutter to 1/13 of a second and got this cool effect. It's abstract but still kind of beautiful.

March 26, 2008 - Something Fun

Bobblehead Stitch - 87/366

Just wanted to do something fun today. This is my Bobblehead Lilo and Stitch figurine I got at Disney a few years ago.

Lilo and Stitch remains one of my favorite disney movies to this day.

Ask me to do the voice sometime.

OHANA!

March 25, 2008 - The end of the world as we know it... and i'm not fine with it

End of Innocence - 85/366

This week my client got me a Blackberry.

I'm not fine with it.

March 24, 2008 - The Perfect Time of Night

The Perfect Time of Day - 84/366

My photographer instructor had a class 'field trip' to the Jefferson Memorial to take pictures at what she calls, the 'magic moment'. It's shortly after dusk and the skies come up a beautiful purple and blue or a combination.

This is a photo of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing reflecting in the Tidal Basin. The sky is a beautiful purple/red and I find this shot just beautiful. Almost straight from the camera.

March 23, 2008 - Spring has definitely sprung

Spring has sprung - 83/366

A tree on my block of Willard Street. The flowers are back on it and it feels like spring.

I stood underneat the tree where the sun was blocked and looked straight up and centered in on this branch. Got a really cool bokeh in the back.

I havent used my macro lens too much lately so I'm getting addicted to it again!

March 22, 2008 - Ultimate Saturday

Through the Cup - 82/366

Saturday, we had our second game of the season. I wanted to take photos of our game, but we did not have many subs, so I didn't get a chance. I took some photos of the game prior and this is my favorite of the bunch because I like the way the orange defender's arms and the blue teams throwing arm mimic each other.

This shot is a blue handler throwing orange's zone defense cup. The pass was completed downfield.

March 21, 2008 - First day of Spring

Happy First day of Spring - 81/366

Thought I would take some photos of some flowers for the first day of spring. This is a cool bokeh shot of some beautiful yellow flowers at 16th and U/New Hampshire.

March 20, 2008 - Bracket Edition

Go Longhorns - 80/366

March madness began today. I'm hoping I can pull something off this year. I have Texas vs. UNC in the finals with Texas winning it all. I put my money on them last year and they were eliminated in the second round. Maybe this year will be better.

March 19, 2008 - mmmmmm Cake

Welcoming the Boy cake - 79/366

Today at work we had a surprise baby shower for our coworker Olivia. She is 7 months pregnant and could 'pop' any anytime (says her Husband). Surprisingly no one had a camera that day, and, since I take mine with me everywhere I took some shots at the party. No one at the office expected me to have such a large camera, I brought the D40X with the 18-200 lens. I only snapped 3 photos, this being my favorite of the "Welcome the Boy" cake, which was made by another person in our department. Maybe there is some talent at the DOJ after all!

March 18, 2008 - Buon Appetito.... sort of!

Step 9: Transfer to the blender...... or not.

Tonight, I made a homemade marinara sauce from scratch using basically just 3 major ingredients. To see the recipe and step by step action, start here.

A part of the process includes transferring to a blender. I spilled a little bit and it splattered on my countertop.I thought it would be the best for my photo of the day! The final product was delicious!

Enjoy!

March 17, 2008 - Something green for Patrick

Something Green for St Patty's Day - 77/366

Well, today was St Patty's Day. But, I was at work and then had class and didnt get home until 930. I took a shot of something green in my office today. It's nothing special, but I guess it counts!

March 16, 2008 - On the fence

Fence to Infinite (B&W) - 76/366

Today, I went to Rural Virginia with my friend Aaron to take landscape photos for my photography class. We went to The Plains, VA and found lots of farms with wide open spaces. I saw this fence and knew what I had to do. The sky was a beautiful blue and I wanted to have the fence be a key point in the photo, but not overtake it. Needless to say, I'm very very very happy with how this turned out

I highly suggest clicking here and viewing it large.

March 15, 2008 - Spring Ultimate begins!

Hard Force - 76/366

Spring ultimate started this Saturday at Lake Fairfax Park in Reston, VA. It was a mostly good day to play - approximately 60 degrees with a slight wind. We ended up losing 11-8, but we battled down from 4 points down (6-2) to tie it up at 8.

Player from Team Dijon (blue) forces Simi (green) from my team, Wide Stance, to flick.

March 14, 2008 - March Madness

Storm the Court - 75/366

After work, a couple of friends went to the American University/Colgate University final for the Patriot League. This is a shot of fans storming the court after American University wins 62-56 and makes the NCAA Tournament for the first time since they went Division 1 in 1967.

March 13, 2008 - I saw the sign

Hard Hat Area

Whoa signs! Tons of signs along a fence at 10th and Penn NW. A little bit of intentional distortion as well

I'm not sure exactly why i like this shot so much, but I love the colors. It's so bright and vibrant and the "hard hat area" sign looks almost translucent. And the fence has been there for months now, been meaning to take a shot of it.

March 12, 2008 - Trying to Make it

Trying to make it - 72/366

After a very busy day, my client had a happy hour at McCormick and Schmick's at 9th and F NW. I left after two beers and was going to take some photos of the restaurant and the signs for today's project, but I decided to take something on the way to the metro. I tipped this great sax player a dollar and he left me take photos of him. He was even posing for me here. I took a few shots and got this one of people walking around him and not noticing, but I noticed him today. It took me out of the 'street photography' shell a little bit.

March 11, 2008 - Something special

Brownies with Peanut Butter - 71/366

My parents came to visit this past weekend and my mom made me some delicious desserts, including these brownies with m&m's. I melted some peanut butter in the microwave and drizzled it on top. Sometimes it's fun to indulge.

and it was goooooooood

March 10, 2008 - Shoes, Oh my god, Shoes!

Shoes, Oh my God, Shoes - 70/366

umm.. needed something for today.

I knew the soles of my shoes had a pretty cool design. So, I made a 'butterfly' design.

Sorry, this 366 is going to have days like this!

shoes, oh my god, shoes

March 9, 2008 - Portrait Project Gone Wrong

Portrait Outtake - 69/366

This is my friend Will. I was supposed to use him as a model for my photography class and mimic a professional shot. It didnt go so well. This is just a flattering shot of him taken in between shots.

I'm going to redo the shot at a later point.

March 8, 2008 - Photo Show, Day 2

Bokeh of my Print - 68/366

My parents came to the show today and I wanted to take photos of the less crowded gallery. There were still quite a good amount of people coming in and out of the studio. Mine was in the back corner, so I had to squirm into the corner to get this one. Luckily no one passed through for this shot!

I'm still just thrilled that I have something up in a gallery. If you're in DC, check it out 2-6 Wednesday - Saturday until March 15th at the Civilian Arts Project at 406 7th St NW 3rd floor.

March 7, 2008 - Opening Night!!!

My Shot, Through the Crowd - 67/366

Well, it was finally here. The DCist Exposed Photo Show was extremely packed during the opening reception. This is my shot that was selected to be displayed through the crowd. At one point, the light wrapped down through the 2nd floor, down the stairs and outside a block!

This is the first time that I have ever had a photo in display and it was just an amazing experience to have hundreds (maybe even a thousand?) of people see it.

March 6, 2008 - My Date to the DCist show

My Date to the DCist show - 66/366

Dear Sony Cybershot DSC-W50 -

We've had some good times together. You really were good to me. You went all over the world, New Zealand, Australia, London, Barcelona, Croatia, California, Chicago and throughout the MidAtlantic. And, I know that I havent used you in a while. But there's someone else. Yes, I've been seeing Nikon D40X . But, I want you to be my date to the DCist Exposed Photography show opening night. I think I'd have a better time with you. Sometimes I think you make me feel more comfortable in social situations. I've already talked it over with Nikon and its okay with it.

So, what do you say? Will you charge up your battery and come with me to the show tomorrow?

Love,
Craig

March 5, 2008 - Wizards game laugher

Darius Songaila floater - 65/366

My friend Tracey got us $10 (nosebleed) seats to the Wizards vs. Magic game. Good thing the tickets were only $10. They Wizards were down the entire game and were losing by 36 points midway in the 4th quarter. The final score was 122-92.

The info on this play is: Dwight Howard attempts to block a jump shot in the paint by Darius Songaila. The basket was good.

I think this is my favorite shot of the night, I think you get a lot of players in focus and there's some good action and a slight blur on the ball itself.

March 4, 2008 - Dare to be Different

Dare to be Different - 64/366

My stack of paper clips at work has one yellow triangular clip and about 500 regular metal paperclips. I put them together in an 'interesting' way and took a macro photo of them. I then convereted to Sepia tone, which brought out the wood desk.

March 3, 2008 - Fun with Flash

Fun With Flash - 63/366

I was playing around with the flash on my camera and took this shot. I completely blew out the background and I'm not sure if anything is actually in focus, but it's my cell phone and a mechanical pencil. Kinda wild.

:)

March 2, 2008 - Build a bridge

Family Portrait On a Bridge - 62/366

It was a really mild March day, mid 50s blue sky. So, I took a walk down to the Key Bridge from my apartment and took a photo of this family on a bridge that people can pass over the C&O Canal. I love the reflection in the water and the beautiful colors.

March 1, 2008 - A change of plans

Glass of Orange Juice .... with some vodka. - 61/366

A bunch of the guys met up to play ultimate today, but it was way too windy - 30 mph winds and pretty constant. So, instead of playing, we got a movie and made some brunch at my friend Ryan's apartment. We watched Sordid Lives and drank some OJ (some with vodka), had some pancakes and sausage. Sure beats exercising!
