It was supposed to rain all weekend long. But, this was taken Saturday morning around 830 am. I had an ultimate game at the Polo Fields on the Mall at Independence and Ohio Dr SW. I was expecting the game to be cancelled or at least cloudy and drizzly. I got this last shot of the cherry blossoms before they turn green. I cant believe that at such a crowded location during the festival there's no people here.
In the center is the Northrop Grumman building in Rosslyn. On the left is the John Ericsson monument (who!?) and the pink trees are the Cherry Blossoms.

Left over from my Civil War class back in college: I believe Ericsson was a Swedish inventor-type who came up with an armored boat during the Civil War (I think he designed the USS Monitor). Using an ironclad method, his design was meant to help deflect oncoming cannon fire. It worked...or at least didn't fail and became a prototype for more Northern vessels which were arguably one of several successes which helped the Union win the Conflict Between States.
The monument could be praising a different Ericsson altogether.
Looks like I was right. (at least Wikipedia agrees with me!)
